2010 Summer Recreation Programs Available:

SOFTBALL AND BASEBALL REGISTRATIONS FEES DOUBLE ON MAY 1ST (NOT INCLUDING GROUP SWIMMING LESSONS) NO SOFTBALL AND BASEBALL REGISTRATIONS ACCEPTED AFTER MAY 15TH
This program allows its participants to learn the basic fundamentals. Games are held Monday - Thursday with Fridays being left open for rain dates. All games will be played in the evening after 5:00pm. Games will be played at the Elementary Field. All schedules are TBA. Equipment will be distributed and practice will start approximately three weeks before the first scheduled game. All Summer Rec Softball & Baseball registration fees will increase to $30.00 April 2nd and increase again to $50.00 on May 1st. Coed Mini Ball Girl’s Softball Boy’s Baseball Summer Rec Softball & Baseball Advisory Board Members: Youth and Major/Minor Softball & Baseball Uniform Requirements: BCIG Falcons t-shirts will be provided. Softball players are responsible for their own black shorts, slide guards (optional for 1st 3rd softball), and black visors. Baseball players are responsible for their own baseball pants (black for youth baseball, grey for major/minor baseball) and black hats. Hats and visors will be sold by the recreation center. Tennis shoes or molded cleats (no steel cleats) are required for practice and games. There are no uniform requirements for Coed Mini Ball. * All programs are based on the grade of the child during the 2009-2010 school year. *You will be notified of team placement by your child’s coach. Please be patient, as they do not all start practice at the same time. * Parents, please be prompt when picking up your child/children as there will not be a phone available to make calls. The recreation center and the BC-IG Major/Minor Softball & Baseball Board together are offering competitive softball and baseball for 4th 7th grade girls and 5th 8th grade boys. Teams from the Major/Minor program will be participating in a competitive fast pitch league with other Northwest Iowa teams. This program is geared towards individuals who have graduated from Summer Rec and are interested in further developing their skills as they prepare for the challenges of high school softball or baseball. Practice begins in April and games begin in May. All schedules are TBA. Due to the competitiveness of this program, equal playing time for all is not guaranteed. Home games will be held at the Battle Creek softball and baseball fields. Coaches will be contacting you when practices will begin. Players are expected to attend all practices and games. If you skip a practice without notifying your coach, you won’t be allowed to play the next game. All Major/Minor Softball & Baseball registration fees will increase to $30.00 April 2nd and increase again to $50.00 on May 1st. Learn the basic fundamentals of the game of golf. Rules, etiquette and basic skills of the game will be taught. Ida Grove Country Club General Manger Mike Ray will be lead instructor for the junior golf program. Session times will be spent on the fundamentals of full swing, chipping, and putting. Juniors will be allowed to play a couple of holes following instruction at no charge. Members and non-members of the Country Club and Recreation Center are welcome to participate. Everyone must be registered for the Junior Golf Program in order to participate in the July 6th Contest Day and July 8th Junior Golf Tournament. Prizes will be given on the contest day on July 6th. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top places of each age bracket in the July 8th Junior Golf Tournament. Adults interested in volunteering to help out with the program should contact General Manager Mike Ray. Golf clubs are not provided. Fee: $20.00 (Must register and pay at the recreation center) Level I Level II *Parent must accompany child in the water. * Parents, you may not bring other siblings to swim during this time. Parent and Child Aquatics or Little Bubblers (6 monthsabout 3 years) Parents and children learn together to increase a child’s comfort level in the water and build a foundation of basic skills, such as arm and leg movements and breath control. The two levels are fun-filled and help introduce water safety concepts, encouraging a healthy recreational habit that your entire family can enjoy. Level 1: Provides experiences and activities for children to: Learn to ask for permission before entering the water, learn how to enter and exit the water in a safe manner, feel comfortable in the water, explore submerging to the mouth, nose and eyes and fully submerging, explore buoyancy on the front and back position, change body position in the water, learn how to play safely, experience wearing a life jacket. Level 2: Builds upon the skills learned in Level 1 and provides experiences and activities for children to: Establish expectation for adult supervision, learn more ways to enter and exit the water in a safe manner, explore submerging in a rhythmic pattern, glide on the front and back with assistance, perform combined stroke on front and back with assistance, change body position in the water, experience wearing a life jacket in the water. Pre-school Aquatics: July 19-23 at recreation center pool Fee: $20.00 (Must register and pay at the recreation center) Level I Level II Level III *Need a minimum of 5 per level or the lessons will be cancelled. * Parents, you may not bring other siblings to swim during this time. Preschool Aquatics (about 45 years old) Throughout the three levels, preschool-age children are taught basic aquatic safety, survival and swimming skills, all the while increasing their comfort level in and around the water. Skills are age-appropriate, helping children achieve success on a regular basis and enjoy social interactions with other children. As in all Swimming and Water Safety courses, your child will always know that it’s safety first. Level 1: Orients children to the aquatic environment and helps them gain basic aquatic skills. Enter and exit water using ladder, steps or side, blow bubbles through mouth and nose, submerge mouth, nose and eyes, open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects, front and back glides, recover from a front glide to a vertical position, back float and recover to a vertical position, roll from front to back and back to front, tread with arm and hand actions, alternating and simultaneous leg actions on front and back, alternating and simultaneous arm actions on front and back, combined arm and leg actions on front and back. Level 2: Helps children gain greater independence in their skills and develop more comfort in and around water. Enter water by stepping in, exit water using ladder, steps or side, bobbing, open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects, front and back floats and glides, recover from a front and back float or glide to a vertical position, roll from front to back and back to front, tread water using arm and leg actions, combined arm and leg actions on front and back, finning arm action on back. Level 3: Helps children start to gain basic swimming propulsive skills to be comfortable in and around water. Enter water by jumping in, fully submerge and hold breath, bobbing, front, jellyfish & tuck floats, recover from a front & back float or glide to a vertical position, back float & glide, change direction of travel while swimming on front or back, tread water using arm & leg actions, combined arm & leg actions on front and back, finning arm action on back.
